Hollywood Punk & The Cramps
Digging around for some old punk rock today in the search engines. Looking at old Hollywood Punk merch, music, and news. I need to order a few of those punk rock DVDs. The Cramps - Live at Napa State Mental Hospital DVDIn June 1978, The Cramps played a free concert for patients at the California State Mental Hospital in Napa, California. The Cramps were at the peak of their engaging sound. They had just finished recording "Gravest Hits." Midway through the second song, a young woman commands the stage and begins sharing the mic with Lux. By the time the "Human Fly" is played a real ho-down is occurring on and off stage with the audience members dancing about, grabbing at the mic and embracing each other - all of which adds to the spectacle of this once-in-a-lifetime performance! Songs include: "Mystery Plane," "The Way I Walk," "Human Fly," "Domino," "Garbage Man," and more. The Cramps - Live at Napa State Mental Hospital will rock your fucking socks off.
Hellbound Hayride
Here is a pic of the singer from Hellbound Hayride. I took this photo at a Split Seven record release party. Was a great time, the band kicked much ass and was a blast to be face to face with while rocking for a good hour or more! I attended the shows that are featured on the Hellbound Hayride LIVE cd Who Shot A Hole In My Sombrero?A must have for the psycho-hellbilly collector! hellbound Hayride may be slightly unknown around the U.S. but here in Los Angeles these guys hold their own and know how to ROCK AND FUCKING ROLL - Hellbilly style!
Psycho Hellbilly Punk Rockers In L.A.
not sure how the music scene is where you are, but here in Los Angeles/Hollywood there are at least 5 shows a day I wish I could attend. Band after band are laying it down out here trying to make it. Best thing is I get to see them in small dive bar and hang with the no-name-not-on-MTV bands that kick so much fucking ass! I just wrote something on the psycho-hellbilly hot-rod-punk scene here. There are a few bands that are gracing this dirty city. Check out Los Angeles Hot Rod Punk Psycho HellbillysIf you like the psycho-billy cowpunk-hot-rod shit, make sure you check out the bands and give them a listen! They are all well worth it.
The Hellacopters - Payin' The Dues
| | The Hellacopters have paid their dues for years now and are still one of the bands that have seemed to help lead the Rock And Roll Jihad! From the latest album High Visibility to the old stuff like Respect the Rock America the 'Copters simply kick ass. | To me, Payin' the Dues was a much needed effort. Dregen and Nick Royale have been dueling these axes and layin' down high-powered Action Rock and it's more than obvious on the classics Supershitty to the Max (one of my favorite albums of all time) and the well-respected Devil Stole the Beat From the Lord. The Hellacopters also have a DVD out (Goodnight Cleveland) which is superb. Instead of showing them play huge crowds and arenas to 30,000 people like they do everywhere EXCEPT America, they show the band setting up their own gear and touring the U.S. like a real rock band. Which proves my point even more about Payin' the Dues. "The Hellacopters: Goodnight Cleveland is a fly on the wall documentary following the Hellacopters on their 2002 tour of America. Informed by the techniques of cinema verit‚ and direct cinema developed in the 1960's by master documentary filmmakers such as the Maysle brothers, the band is allowed the space to do what they do without intrusions of any kind from the filmmaker, allowing for glimpses into the magical and mundane moments of everyday life in a hard working action rock band abroad. The Hellacopters: Goodnight Cleveland is a relaxed and open-handed portrait of a band on the road. Essential viewing for anyone pondering a career in music." - Amazon.comLooking for other good 'Copters albums to pick up? Check out Disappointment Blues and the have-to-have Vol. 2-Cream of the Crap of all the old vinyl b-sides and rarities that have been sold on ebay for uncalled for prices. When Nick Royale heard some of his first vinyl was selling for hundreds of dollars, I was reading the news on the 'Copters site like 3 years ago, and his response was: "Don't pay 100's of dollars for these old vinyls, I will put out discs containing all the old stuff." And so he did. Well worth the bucks. The Hellacopters fucking rule. The latest Hellacopters album is High Visibility and is an absolute must-have for the 'Copter collector. If you're gonna rock, you better do it fast, and high-powered. The 'Copters are like an old GTO suped up with 3 engines, Motorhead on the radio, and sex, drugs and rock and fucking roll!
Elvis Presley
With the recent mention of "rock and roll" celebrating it's "50th Anniversary," as someone who grew up around black blues musicians and old school rockers, I felt it necessary to mention a great article i found as well as thoughts on Elvis being good, but let's not strip all those talented black men who STARTED ROCK AND ROLL of the credit they definitely deserve. Elvis Presely admits he got his sound from the blacks in Tupelo Mississippi. The most important fact to not over-look, is the fact that Elvis did not even write "That's All Right." And the guy who recorded it for him, had recorded the original put out years earlier (1946) by a black blues man. And the quote from him is "If I could find a white man who had the Negro sound and the Negro feel, I could make a billion dollars.” He found Presley, and the money followed. Who did the original? Arthur Crudup. Whom after recording it, went back to doing what all blacks were doing back then, working on a farm. Only a White Boy like Elvis could be popular enough to bring this music to a white crowd and that's exactly how history was written. With all due respect, Elvis and crowd, he rocked, but Elvis was not the first, nor should the 50th anniversary of rock and roll be celebrated for a COVER SONG by a man most "rockers" could never even name: Arthur Crudup. “The colored folks been singing it and playing it just like I’m doing now, man, for more years than I know,” Elvis told reporters in 1956. “I got it from them. Down in Tupelo, Mississippi, I used to hear old Arthur Crudup bang his box the way I do now, and I said if I ever got to the place where I could feel all old Arthur felt, I’d be a music man like nobody ever saw.” Memphis Minnie, Louis Jordan, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Jerry Lewis, Buddy Holly, and many others helped shape what is now known as "rock n roll." Elvis simply watched and imitated what he saw going on. Read, Elvis Rocks. But He's Not the First Let's not do old black musicians a modern injustice and strip them of what is rightfully theirs.

Supersuckers Rock
Without a doubt one of the most refreshing American Rock albums to come out in awhile was Supersuckers - Evil Powers of Rock N' Roll. Eddie Spaghetti and crew laid it the fuck down, as it should have been done all along. I have no clue how some people can listen to the bullshit "rock" MTV and radio stations are force-feeding America these days. Jesus H. Christ, turn off the fucking radio and TV and throw on Supersuckers - Motherfuckers Be Trippin'. I got very, very drunk last night and threw on 400 Bucks/Caliente a Reverend Horton heat/Supersuckers split. Killer little disc to have. And like every hangover, I need herbs so it looks like Supersuckers - Must've Been High is what I should throw on now, you should too. The Supersuckers should be listened to daily. I know I listen to them every day. One of my favorite Supersuckers was at The House Of Blues on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood California. Great set, and I believe they were filming so they put on an extra special show. I particularly enjoyed seeing the drummer play Eddie's bass with drum sticks, I was drunk but remember it quite well. "I be getting lost in the Sauce, yeah that's why. I'm too drunk, and I'm too high."
Glenn "The Strangler" Danzig Knocked Out
I have been listening to Danzig in one form or another since 1986. Obviously I love old Misfits albums like Walk Among Us and Earth A.D./Die Die My Darling but I have to admit, I would find it hilarious to see Danzig start shit with someone and actually get his ass handed to him. That would be some funny shit. Well, that's exactly what happened on Saturday, DANZIG frontman Glenn Danzig allegedly got into a scuffle with NORTH SIDE KINGS singer and frequent SOULFLY collaborator Danny Marianinho following DANZIG's performance in Tuba City, Arizona (July 3). Without going into the story too much, the night was not going well for the bands who were opening up for Danzig. Due to whatever reasons, bands were not being allowed to play. Some having driven six hours to play the venue. Also, since they were not playing, they were not being paid, so it's easy to see how this situation could not be too cool for some bands, doing their tour van-style. I guess Danzig has forgotten what it's like to tour that way. The following is Marianinho's official statement regarding the incident: I confronted Mr. Danzig backstage while he was signing autographs and told him I thought he was an asshole because of his 'rock star' attitude and no consideration towards the FEW other bands that got bumped off tonight. In a fit of rage he turned around and slammed me into the wall yelling 'Fuck you, motherfucker,' trying to be a big, tough guy in front of his fans. I, in self-defense, punched him in the face, knocking him out as he was attacking me again. He went down, bleeding from his mouth, eyes rolled back, and in shock that he got knocked to the floor so quickly.
A friend happened to tape the entire incident and this is all documented. Many witnesses saw him attack me, and I did what any man would do.
I apologize for nothing, except for the poor little kids that had to witness this big asshole get his ass kicked in a matter of seconds..." I doubted it myself until I saw the clips from the video. I grabbed a couple screenshots to show and tell part of the story, to show Danzig kind of deserved it. Whatever the guy might have said, he went for his throat. You go for a guy's throat, expect to get punched back, no? Here is the Northside Kings singer telling Danzig he and the band had driven six hours to play the show, and that it sucked that he was so inconsiderate of the other bands, etc... Clearly, going for the throat, and the singer is trying to gain his balance and pull his arms off his throat. What happens next is more than obvious, and logical. Danzig takes a Thor-like punch to the face and goes down. One punch, down for the count. Well, we didn't learn How the Gods Kill, and I never like to insult guys I actually like. But it looks like Satan's Child got "knocked the fuck out."Looking for a good Misfits collection to pick up? If you don't have this, get it now. Danzig 4 is worth checking out as well.
Nashville Pussy & Blaine Cartwright
Sitting here listening to Nashville Pussy - Say Something Nasty. I can't help but remember the last time I saw them. They were rocking Hollywood with the Reverend Horton Heat. Killer fucking show. Nothing finer than watching the Redneck Rock Daddy, Blaine Cartwright lay it the fuck down. If you haven't heard the man lay down "Kicked In The Teeth" on track #1 from the compilation Heads Will Roll you need to grab it as soon as you can. Blaine Cartwright is what American Rock has been missing for years now, and I am glad to see something nasty come out that reaches back into the depths of the basics of rock and fucking roll! Say Something Nasty is a hot album. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND, "The Bitch Just Kicked Me Out," and the stomping track "You Give Drugs A Bad Name!" You just don't get much better than that, not these days. It's about time. I own all of their studio albums and a couple rarities I guess. One of my absolute favorites though is the track "She's Got The Drugs, on the album High as Hell. Get it NOW!

It feels good to be back.
